Dr. Overberg's What are Activated B-Vitamins?

Today, a very common subject I address at least once a week. Of course, I generally only see persons with problems. The biggest problem is: “Enough Energy”. Energy comes from calories; many are low in calories or follow diets that (ONLY) work for healthy people. It you are healthy you can do anything. After calories (diet), comes protein (make things), then enzymes (digests protein carbs and fat). After you spend all that effort (energy) your cells can turn it with the help of B-Vitamins into more energy (return on investments). And guess what? Some B-vitamins need to be converted into their active form before they can be used (more investment). Fortunately, we now can buy many of the B-vitamins in their active form.

What are Activated B-Vitamins? Modern chemistry discovered we need to convert some of our essential vitamins before we can utilize them. These activated or converted vitamins bypass this essential step. Some people are inefficient converters, and benefit from these forms! Or flat out, some have such a poor, overly processed (fast) food diet, they are simply not getting enough from the food they eat.

Vitamin B1 or Thiamine, active forms:  Thiamine Pyrophosphate (TPP) is the active, phosphorylated form of Vitamin B1 (Thiamine). It is also known as thiaminediphosphate or cocarboxylase (Source Naturals).

--Benfotiamine 50mg, fat-soluble derivative that is absorbed efficiently and converted into thiamine, which then converts into TPP. It is part of Active B Complex, 60 caps, by SFI Health or 150mg by itself byDoctor’s Best Walmart on-line, or
-- Lipothiamine is Thiamine Tetrahydrofurfuryldisulfide (TTFD) is a synthetic, fat-soluble derivative of thiamine used for enhanced absorption.  50 mg 60 enteric coated tablets, by Cardiovascular Research
--Sulbutiamine, a disulfide derivative of Thiamine(B1). In “Thiamentia” by Ecological Formulas 100mg 60 caps not enteric coated.

Vitamin B2 or riboflavin, active form: Riboflavin5'-phosphate or R-5-P. By Thorne, or part of Active B Complex, 20mg 60 caps, by SFI Health or B-Minus by Seeking Health

Vitamin B3 or niacin (the generic name). Nicotinic acid is the cholesterol lowering and skin flushing form. Niacinamide or inositol hexanicotinate are the no-flush forms     Note: B3 can counter / shut down the negative effects of too much 5-MTHF!

Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid or better use pantethine.

Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine, active form: Pyridoxal 5-phosphate,  P-5-P or PLP.

Vitamin B7 or biotin.

Vitamin B8 Not recognized: Inositol ---- Myo-Inositol D-ChiroInositol

Vitamin B9 or folic acid or better folate, or better the active form: 5-MTHF or (6S) 5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt (Metafolin, Quatrefolic) and sometimes you get Folinic acid (chemotherapy)

Vitamin B10 ---- Not recognized  PABA (para-benzoic acid)

Vitamin B12 or cyanocobalamin or hydroxy-cobalamin can make both active forms: methyl-cobalamin and adenosyl-cobalamin. These cannot interchange!

---- Not recognized: Vitamin B15 pangamic acid

---- Not recognized: B17 Amygdalin (apricot kernel)

My Favorite, it has almost all the active forms of the recognized B-vitamins available, except for adenosyl B12: Active B Complex 60 caps by SFI Health at Fullscript

How is Drron? Great, still loves helping people with nutrition counseling. Still loves GOD, himself, his wife, his dogs and all the people he meets. Jax (dark brindle 10) and newly adopted Missy (fawn), an 8-year-old. He is busy redoing all his paperwork that he could not deal with after he lost Chris in 2021.Yes, Madonna is making a difference. I found a new baby turtle! There only 24 hours in the day, so the newsletter gets the ax when time is short.

Drron takes new patients again. Please, leave a message with your name and number, and I can call you back. Please, if you leave a message or send an email, send me text to look for it.  972-816-5892 or drron@nutriwellness.com
