Today we start with a contribution from my friend and colleague Jim McAfee on: “Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency”

For years NeoLife has sold Beta-gest, a stomach acid support,and Enzyme Digestive Aid, a support for pancreatic function. I am noticing that doctors are increasingly diagnosing pancreatic insufficiency. It is strange tome that some of these same physicians are putting patients on antacids which block stomach acid secretions. Physicians like Jonathan Wright, MD, and William Philpott, MD, observed many years ago that their patients were often deficient in both of these important digestive substances.

Stomach acid and pancreatic enzymes are essential for proper digestion and utilization of protein. Beta-gest

Beta-gest is the hydrochloric acid extracted from beet stems and beet roots. What does really mean in simple terms You have trouble breaking down proteins fats and carbohydrates so that you can absorb them from the intestine into the blood stream?It does matter how perfect you eat, or if you follow some diet to a “T”. Medical doctors and others doctors, can test for Pancreatic elastase 1 (PE1) is in your stool sample. This enzyme is made by us humans, and is not found in our food supply, and not in any digestive supplements and pills. It is a proteolytic enzyme secreted exclusively by the human pancreas, and as such, it reflects overall pancreatic exocrine function. If you have you have gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort, constipation and diarrhea, you can ask you’re your doctor to run this stool test To RULE-OUT Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency. If you have it then they will prescribe Creon or a similar pancreatic extract to support your digestion,  they don’t help the pancreas; rather, they replace the digestive enzymes that the pancreas is supposed to produce, but isn't in sufficient quantities due to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).
